Overview

Alleviating the cost of living in Australia for students through Student on Way

To meet the urgent demand of students for cost-effective commuting solutions, our design brief suggests offering a comprehensive service to redefine the waystudents travel to school. Our concept is designed to provide services for studentdrivers and passengers, offering a range of benefits aimed at reducing the burdenof time and economic commuting. The core is to provide free parking spaces on campus which encourages student drivers to participate in the shared commuting system. The platform provides aflexible trip management system, as well as designated meeting points, ensuringsafety and convenience. The economic sesign presents an affordable alternative, cutting down on both the waiting times and high costs for student passengers.Through the integration of trip management, parking coordination, andcommunication channels, our concept will create great changes.

Background

The rising cost of travel is taking up an increasingly large proportion of living expenses, with both public transportation and private car costs increasing.Students, especially international students, face greater pressures of living costs. We have chosenthem as our target group, hoping to alleviate the pressures brought by currency exchange differences and the necessity to work while studying.

User research
User need
  • Most of the interviewees indicated that the transportation cost is high and accompanied by a high cost of time, and that they did not have excellent solution to facilitate this. Consistent with the assumption.

  • Some students reduced the transportation costs in negative ways, such as walking long distances, reducing the frequency of going out and scheduling all classes over two days.

  • Some of the interviewees who owned a car felt that the cost of transport was acceptable to them and that there was no need to reduce costs. However, they generally reported problems with poor parking at the school, resulting in wasted time and money.
